Is there a safe, effective method to kill weeds?

I read Walter's analysis of the suggested methods, but I didn't come away with a method to kill the weeds. No sidewalks here. Many weeds at the end of the driveway. Thank you.

Using plain white vinegar will kill weeds. Also, boiling water or baking soda. :) Hope it helps

I use a solution of vinegar, salt and liquid dish washing detergent. The vinegar kills the foliage; salt makes the ground unfit for the roots to grow, and the liquid detergent makes it all flow evenly onto what you're trying to kill. We've been using it for the last 3 years with great success. I keep a cheap spray bottle of it around and spray where I think I need it. Last summer, I only had to treat some of the problem areas a couple of times. Works, in our estimation, better than Roundup and is safer around pets and children, along with being friendly to the environment. If you want to try a small quantity, just mix up 32 ounces of white vinegar (5% acidity), 1/4 cup iodized salt, and 1 tablespoon liquid dish detergent (like Dawn). Shake up and spray the foliage until quite wet, then spray around the base to get to the roots. You should see wilting within a few hours. Dead vegetation within 24 hours.

Boiled vinegar solution works extremely well . Spray vegetation a very hot sunny day. The weeds bite the dust before your eyes. The vinegar smell dissipates by the end of the day. Don't try to do this if the weeds are wet. DRY DAY.

I use two methods; to keep weeds at bay in my gravel I place down layers of newspaper underneath the gravel. It will KO the weeds for up to two years. For areas where that's not practical I use a 50/50 mix of vinegar and dish soap, sprayed on the weeds, and this kills them within 24 hours.

I ordered Bayer Advanced Natria which was recommended by Mr. Reeve on hometalk. He is the garden expert. My question has been answered. Thank you, everyone.
