I have used a homemade weed killer[equal to Round-up] Its very good. 1 gallon white vinegar, 1 cup table or canning salt, a heavy squirt of blue dawn dish soap.

I use the same thing. Because I have three dogs I am always afraid they will lick the regular weed killer.

The weed killer recipe I had overnight success with was: 2 cups Epson salts, 1/4 cup dish liquid (Dawn is good) mixed into 1 gallon of white vinegar. It was a miracle how quickly the weeds died and stayed dead!!!!!

I just use a large squirt bottle with white vinegar, a little bit of dawn dish soap. turning the nozzle to stream then go at the weeds. I wait until it's sunny out and no wind. The next day they are dead and I pull them out..Make sure there is no wind because it kills other plants that you may Love.

You can also just pour boiling water on the weeds. If you are using the vinegar and salt, be very careful not to get it on the plants you want to keep. Salt especially will spread out if used heavily and kill neighbouring plants.

I used the the vinegar, salt and Dawn solution twice. It kills quickly but in my yard the weeds come back quickly and more densely. I have given up on this homemade mix.

I have tried many things but my absolute favorite is baking soda. Just sprinkle on a fair amount and wait a few days. Plants will turn blackish or brown and be very easy to pull (root and all). It will kill whatever it gets on so be careful. Its cheep, easy, no mixing, and very safe for everyone (including my free range chickens and young kids). And you don't have to worry if its gonna rain soon (like the vinegar), it still works. I used it all summer and did notice things will grow back but they are easier to pull when they do. Try it!!

I use vinegar, salt and dish soap on my gravel paths but it has to be applied several times over to successfully get rid of weeds.Be persistent! In flower beds I water thoroughly then hand pull rather than use any kind of weed killer.

I too pull up weeds in flowerbeds. I have als heard that horticultural vinegar works; but I have never use it.

Pouring boiling water on the weeds kills them in just a few days with no chemicals (Yes, vinegar is a chemical). I bought a used electric teapot at the Goodwill. I heat the water on the back porch while I putter with other tasks. Then I just pour the boiling water on the weeds. I use it on weeds in my driveway cracks and on the dry stone creekbed in my yard. Works perfectly.
