Hi Deanna. You can purchase tree trunk protectors. They won't be able to get to the bark using these. I would check at your local home improvement store or nursery. -

Rabbit pot pie , just kidding. Peppermint spray or wire netting. My brother - he is a preacher - stopped by yesterday to see if I wanted some squirrels and raccoons. .. to eat. You see , in the south we eat our critter problems. I told him " no thanks " don't like squirrel and never tried raccoon, he said mom used to fix it a lot, I told him that it's no wonder I don't like meat. Some people will eat anything. -

Yes, circle the trunks with chicken wire. Keep the wire away from the trees a few inches.
