Can someone please tell me how to stop these weeds from growing in the cracks of the sidewalk? Is there something I can put in the voids to prevent this? They grow very quickly.

Do you know how much of each? 50% of water and vinegar and add soap and salt? I keep hearing vinegar kills weeds. I'm gonna try it.

I read somewhere about using baking soda---I am trying it out in an area---so far it seems to be working. Just remember that you will often have to reapply the vinegar mix, esp. after a lot of rain---and be prepared to smell the vinegar for a while.

I thought I heard something about baking soda too. Not too worried about the vinegar smell since it's outside.

Pour boiling water on them. Works like a charm!

Yes, boiling water works great! When my daughter in laws mother was canning, she would empty her boiling water on their patio pavers between the cracks. This killed all the weeds without the use of an chemicals or vinegar. They did not grow back until the following year, so they just boiled water and poured it on the few that came back. Worked great.

Once you kill them and/or pull them, put sand or small stones in the cracks. Fills in the voids to keep them from growing back.

Straight salt after you pull them out.

Natural "Systemic" Weed/Poison Oak Killer: Heat one gallon of white vinegar till hot. Add one cup of salt and stir till dissolved. Let cool. Then add two tablespoons of liquid dish soap. Pour mixture in a spray bottle. Set sprayer to stream (not mist) but this depends on what you are spraying. BE PATIENT. Spraying your weeds, etc., with a systemic herbicide or the vinegar mixture will not work overnight as it takes time to destroy the root system. Give it two weeks, then spray weeds/plant again if necessary especially for poison oak/ivy are tough plants with strong, deep roots. NOTE: white vinegar is 5% acidic and will work just fine. However, if you can find one that's 10% or 20% it will be much more potent.

I also had this problem and needed a permanent solution so after killing the weeds and removing the residue I purchased sand and cement mixture from Bunnings (Australian hardware store) then scattered it over all the cracks getting as much in as possible. Then using a broom made sure they were all filled. Sweep path well before lightly hosing the path. The cement will harden and so no more weeds. I think I read this idea on either Hometalk or Pinterest. It sure worked for me! Good luck.

Boiling water works well. You can dissolve salt or add vinegar to the water to prevent reoccurance.

No matter if you sue salt or vinegar, make sure you do not let it touch plants at the side of the walk, it will kill them also.

Vinegar, water and Epsom salts. I saw it on facebook. Spray and the next day you can brush the dead weeds away and supposedly they won't grow back.

If you have a pressure washer it quickly can get rid of all of them then use polymeric sand (available at home improvement stores) this will lock tight the pavers & rid the weeds for good.
