Vinca and Ivy are taking over my cedar trees! How do I make it go away

I live in a rural mountain area where folks just let nature do her thing. Well, she's climbing up every cedar tree in my front yard and leaving NO room for grass or anything else. Nobody else up here seems to mind, these two invaders are growing everywhere, but I'd like to keep my trees (tyvm) and would love a real yard. Please somebody, help!
