Landscaper recommended wearing gloves and grasping the weed in between your fingers and spray weed killer closely to the top of the weed that is in your hand to keep from spraying the plants. Especially if it was a weed with long roots that come back if you can't pull them all out. Time consuming, but he said it works.

Yes, that is an excellent way to get rid of the problem but back breaking work. Its already summer but if you get a head of it now next month will be better. I use Preem in early spring, sprinkle it on the heavy side through out your gardening area. If you do this before the weeds start you'll have less weeds. I use this again every month until November ( I live in Georgia ) you may be good to stop in September. But the most important is the early spring. The box stores discount Preem in the fall so I stock up my supply for the following year. Hope it helps you.
