Stink bugs. Do not crush them or you will get a horrible smell as a result. Its about that time when they begin to emerge. The fastest way to rid your home of them is to use a vacuum and throw the bag away. Its cooler up in your area so this is about the time you will begin to see them. We will being to see them Late September early October. In some cases they are so bad professional tree spraying needs to be done to keep them at bay.

I would agree with Woodbridge - it looks just like a Stink Bug. We have them here and the are either bright red or bright green. I once had one land on my head and made the mistake of brushing it off. It took me four time to wash the stink out.

I'm so glad to see you guys agree it's a stink bug. When I looked at it, I thought that was what it was, but saw the suggestion that it was a Japanese beetle, of which I know nothing. Is that a juvenille? Our stink bugs are typically black, but the juvenilles are green.

The insect is not a stinkbug. It is a green June beetle, Cotinis nitida, as Kellie states. See http://www.ento.okstate.edu/ddd/insects/greenjunebeetle.htm

June bug. We used to catch these as children. I used to tie a string to its back leg and chase my sister around the yard with this. She hated bugs lol. Mean i know but you know how kids are. She paid me back many times.

They do emit an odor but it is not a stink bug. The odor is for protection. They are harmless unless you have a sister who doesnt like flying bugs. lol

Diet & Damage When they are adults June Bugs do little damage, however get rid of them since after they lay their eggs in the soil and your lawn the grubs do a lot of damage! Adult june bugs eat leaves of walnut, oak, and foilage from many plants. The grubs feed on organic matter in the soil and damage grass in your lawn as they eat the roots. They will eat roots of your ornamentals, weed roots and other seedling roots, corn, roses and potatoes. Green with gold trim....June bug! lol @ Glenita, we used to do the same thing! I don't know why, we weren't scared of them, they were just our pet for the day I guess. I thought we were the only ones to do such a crazy thing.

Nope, Stephanie,my sister still is mad at me for chasing her with bugs. Great memories like those and catching lightning bugs and keeping them in a jar, or making glowing jewelry out of their lights. Simple times. I miss them.

Oh heavens. I thought I was the only one that played with June bugs by tying a string to a back leg and let it fly around. They look like big Japanese Beetles but the beetles are busy eating away your flowers and rose bushes and need to be gotten rid of as much as possible. J.P. also love your vegetable garden.

Stink bug, June bugs are big around & pinkish color on top. If you touch these bugs they give off a smell. My dogs love to play with them.

It not sting bug.. it June bugs my mom always fix string June bug leg and hold string let June bug around around until finish play with June bug then let go I watch June bug free away... so beautiful color... Other sting bug look ugly I hate inside grrrrrr.

We always called them June bugs. I guess they got that name because they only appeared in June and then went away until the next year.
