If you can't keep the woodpeckers out of your yard try putting some peanut butter out for them somewhere away from the columns. I put it in the boughs of my trees and they peck the trees not my fence posts or posts on my porch.

Hello Cord....You can also wipe down or spray mist your columns with pure vinegar since it's outside. You'll have to reapply occasionally. The smell of vinegar is strong at first but will dissipate when it dries. The birds will still detect it and go elsewhere. But sure and not use apple cider vinegar as a substitute. That odor will not go away easily. Good luck.

Hi Cord. I'm Cindy. You could put a fake owl somewhere close to your porch. Woodpeckers don't know it's fake. Be sure to move it around every couple days. Once the birds are gone, you can use the owl in flower beds or vegetable gardens to keep birds away. I have one right now in my garden. Best wishes.
