I have this patio door that I never use. I want to change for a window.
Any idea?

This is not really a job for a DIY. And not a one person job. An experienced handyman may be able to do this. Definitely a window contractor can do this. It involves removing the patio door, building a knee wall, sizing the opening for the window, possible new header. If the window is smaller that the door opening, blending the outside with rest of the house. I have installed windows, converted window openings into patio doors and vise versa.

I'm doing that on the house I'm renovating. The window replacing the slider will be the same as other windows in the house. I'd suggest not installing or have installed a window that's radically different from other windows on whatever side of the house the slider currently is on - it will be totally out of place and scream "replacement window". But William is right - this isn't a job for a beginning DIYer, and definitely not a one-person job.

Get someone in to do the job properly. If you know any builders it wouldn't take long to do.

I had a second story patio door replaced with a large window when I had my balcony removed. I am a pretty good DIYer...but would NEVER attempt it, especially after watching what the contractor had to do. (I had him replace the balcony on two of three sides of my house.) You have to build up a pony wall to support the window, then put new siding on, not to mention building permits due to the change.

Hi Barbara, we are looking to remove our deck and change the patio doors into a window also. Need an overhang/roof for bottom deck tho. Would you have any pictures of before and after your change?

We had our french doors turned into a bay window and a window seat in our kitchen. So much nicer and useful. It was a job we hired out.
