Chair in serious need of updating

Question

I have this chair that was given to me and it has been sittting in my entryway. I am in the process of painting my entryway and changing the artwork on the walls. I feel this chair is in serious need of some attention as well. The material is a like faux leather. I'm looking for ideas on what I can do with it. Thoughts? I'm open to all suggestions.

It looks as though it's in great shape. I'd personally just add a decorative lumbar pillow and maybe a small throw over the back to dress it up. Yes you could reupholster it, but if you chose a print fabric you'll more than likely grow tired of that too. 
Slipcovers would be a better idea as they're easily removed for washing. I'm sharing some saved pictures below that might help give you an idea of how it could look slip covered. None fit your chair exactly, but should help give you an idea of what it could look like. 
Another idea would be to stencil a pretty design on the front of the back to add interest.

I have had excellent results spray painting faux leather. I did a couple of pieces for my granddaughter during her I-love-purple period, and painted one chair periwinkle and one violet--using the same paint for the frame and for the faux leather. They looked neat and wore well. The key is using a good quality spray paint.

try annie sloan chalk paint...there are several examples here on hometalk where people have done this. then you could possibly stencil something on it.

How about the printed burlap fabric. It depends on what you are doing for design in your entry way but they have some very nice ones that can but used on anything. Whatever you decide please share. :)

Fast, easy, and quickest to change...spring throw folded over the back with a simple, color matched lumbar pillow. This is a super idea from Becky, above. You then have continuing options for every season and holiday, and won't get tired of the look!

I agree with Becky. Another thing you could do is paint the chair a color you're using in the hallway. It would also add a pop of color & update the chair. That too can be changed if you tire of it. Good luck!

I'm with painting and stenciling. Maybe white or antique white for the wood and a slightly bolder color for the cushions. Then tie it in with your artwork/ new paint using a stencil.

Pick a favorite color sharpie and draw pokadots,stars,etc or a monogram.paint the wood the same color in a glossy finish.Or,paint the wood in a metallic finish paint and paint stripes in the same metallic paint.

Transfer an image from graphic fairy on the back. I like the french images myself. It would add more character to the chair. You can also gently distress the arms then wax them. Nice chair.

Paint the wood and add a pillow to match the decor, and add nail head trim to the chair.

I would just stencil a french design on the fabric you already have and paint the wood an antique distressed white

Some antiqued studs along the front bottom edge and sides as well as the front of the back of the chair along the top edges following the form of the chair back rest. Sand the legs and arm rests to distress the wood along the edges to add character. You also could do a wash of some sort on the wood to antique it a little more.

Lots of good ideas. My first reaction is the chair is just plain blah and needs color or design. I think I would try the stencil idea in a large area on the back and seat first since you have basically a blank canvas. Use that for awhile and if you tire of that then recover it.
