How can I convert a twin bed into a couch-like piece of furniture?
I have a solid wood twin bed. The footboard and headboard are the same height and I would like to raise the bed part up and add some type of storage underneath. Any ideas?

Looks like you basically have the materials you need other than a back (that is if you are on a budget). Either leave the headboard and foot as is or cut it down. Use either boards or plyboard cut for the back of the soft. Lower the mattress to knee height. and either paint or stain. I will tell you from experience, that mattresses made for day bed will last longer than a regular twin bed. I had a couch my husband built years ago and I purchased the daybed mattress which is made with extra support on the out edge. Works well. You can either use another mattress for the cushion on the back of the sofa or make pillows.
You can take the bed apart to decide the pieces you need or take parts off that you don't want to use. Hope this helps.
Do you need the bed higher for storage under? Get bed risers and use plastic bins to put things under...back far enough you probably can't see it.
You can use risers to raise the bed, there r usually 2 sizes so you might want to measure first, the taller ones may make it hard to get up on the bed. You can use a Lot of pillows if bed is against the wall, if not you may be able to put a back on it using the head and foot to attach it to. You will still need pillows because a twin bed is wider than a couch seat. Try for big pillows so u don't have to use so many of the smaller kind that end up tossed everywhere. It's not really hard to do, I did it in a spare room no one realized it, even though they had been on the "couch" playing video games and watching movies, lol. I found a queen headboard and just added extra pieces of wood to make the back on the one I had.
