I'm not really sure what style or theme you have in your home... but here is an idea you may can use:

I would use very thin translucent PVC panels and cut them to size. You could paint on them if desired. I've purchased them from both Amazon and Walmart.

Oops! DON'T get plastic/paper. Your light bulb may toast them, or toxic fumes can be generated.
I would take panels out and paint them a cream color to go with the rest of the room. Than cut lace to fit and spray glue to front of panels before putting them back in.
