How can I add glass doors to built in shelves?

by Jav4813662
how do I add glass paneled doors to built in shelves? I am doing this project myself, dh won't assist. Standard doors dont fit, I hoped IKEA doors would be the solution but to no avail they were too long. Any ideas for adding doors that are not going to be too costly?

If the price of the Ikea doors is right, it might be worth it to buy a glass cutter. You can get one for less than 10 dollars, and then you can cut the Ikea doors down to size.

    Good luck!

More information would be good, but if they are not to large go to lowes or home depot they will cut glass to fit. If you need a heavier glass go to a window shop that repairs or replaces windows and they can do it. They will be higher then the big box stores but it would be a heavier glass. The track for this can be found at the hardware stores as well as handles that fit over the edge of the glass. I like to recommend to people to check out Habitat for humanity stores they have so many different things and might have glass doors from an old entertainment center. There is always craigs list.

Check this out from Home Depot. It works great & they look wonderful.

.Many years ago, my father made glass doors for built-in bookshelves out of windows. You might be able to get the sizes you need that way.

If you are doing glass doors without framing the glass you need to use tempered glass for safety reasons.

If you know some one with a table saw or have one raise the blade just enough for the Plexiglas or real glass to sit in. run your wood over that and move the setting just a hair run again, then again. Then move it more to create the other side of the track . Look at any track and it will be easy to understand what your are cutting. The top track gets deeper cuts than the bottom, so you can put the glass in and out.
