Hi Stephanie! I can tell you how to paint your bookshelf with Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint :)
It is super easy to paint with Dixie Belle.
Step one: Clean with White Lightning
Step two: If you're concerned with bleed through apply two coats of BOSS. If the surface is slick, apply two coats of Slick Stick instead
Step three: Paint one to two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint
Step four (optional): Use any of our clear coats or waxes for extra protection or a different style finish
No sanding required!

You don’t have to sand or prime. Just wipe down your piece to remove any dust, and paint with Dixie Belle chalk mineral paint. It is self sealing, so no topcoat needed either.
Awesome! Thanks so much!

My process has always been to sand, clean and prime - then apply whatever paint you would like followed by a good topcoat to protect!
