Gentle sand and then prime with metal primer. two spray coats of car paint or other metal paint, or when done, cover centre with transfer or decal etc.

Oh I would spray paint them and then either stencil a design on or use furniture transfers to add one. They're so simple to use and come in tons of patterns and styles.
