I can visualize a straight line couch(not bulky) See if you like anything on this site. https://www.pinterest.com/explore/comfortable-couch/
Thank you! I'll look. I'm planning to buy a Flexsteel sofa at a local furniture store. I had one before and should never have let it go. They are extremely well made. You can have them reupholstered if you want something new because they are really worth it. I just didn't want to get something that would be a real mistake with Mission furniture.
This caught my eye right away. What do you think? Is the tufted back too much for Mission style? I'm going to browse more later today when I have time.
Karen --- personally, I think the tufted back and the feet are both too formal and traditional to go well with Mission-style. I would suggest something more along the lines of a 3-cushion upholstered sofa with rolled arms and chunky square feet. It's a much more "goes with everything" style of sofa (eclectic). You might want to check out BirchLane.com for some great options. And if you scroll to the bottom of the page, there are links to WayFair.com, Joss&Main.com, etc. They all have some excellent choices that go well with Mission-style.
You can't go wrong with Flexsteel. I had one when my kids were growing up. We eventually wore out the upholstery but the springs and frame never gave up!
(Just a thought...) I notice your current couch looks like it has recliners built in. If so, does that put the coffee table too close when they are in use? If the room is large enough not to impede traffic flow, how about two new recliners with the coffee table between, against the wall, with a piece of artwork above it on the wall? If you still have money left after buying the recliners you could get a new couch to sit facing the recliners and put the end tables at either end of the couch. If not, use the couch you have a little longer and get yourself posthaste to the secondhand store to find something in good condition, reasonably priced,
while you save up for a new one!
BTW, I like the same couch you like but I think it might be a little too elegant for Mission style tables.
My current sofa does have recliners but I don't like/need/want/use them, lol. Can you tell someone talked me into this sofa? I hear what you are saying about the tufted sofa. I'm going to look for something similar that isn't tufted. I definitely want a 3 person sofa. I have 3 other recliners in my house! I also learned, from getting rid of my old sofa, that I want seat cushions that are reversible instead of immovable, so I can rotate them now and then. I need a solid back or one with attached cushions. I don't care for all the loose cushions. Do you think rolled arms would be ok? I see a lot of those. Thanks so much for your help.
Like this?
Thanks, I agree with you on the tufted back. How did you like the second sofa I posted?
Yes, I think this one is better for what you are trying to accomplish. Do you intend to keep your rug? I really like it. However, you will need to color coordinate your new sofa pillows to the colors in the rug or keep the pillows you already have. The Mission furniture looks like it has a dark stain so maybe a light color for pillows would be good to lighten things up a bit. I can see a nice light sage green with that rug.
I have loose cushions on the back of my current sofa and I'm not sure I love them, either, but I would never have seat cushions that couldn't be turned or flipped, especially with kids or pets in the house.
Yes. My old Flexsteel had seat cushions I could flip/rotate and I didn't realize how much I'd miss them. I need attached ones on the back or a solid back because my back needs the support! Thanks for the light sage color suggestion, too! I love the rug and looked for it a long time. I have drapes that are similar like they were made to go together, so I'm keeping them both.
Thanks to all who joined in and helped me clarify what I'm looking for.
Personally I would avoid a sofa with rolled arms, since Mission style is more square and clean lines. I would choose a comfortable, classic, square arm couch with 3 cushions or a straight back in a neutral fabric or leather. That way you get the Mission "vibe" without the wooden frame. Something like this:
Now all I have to do is FIND it in a local store!
I see your point. Once I get in a store I may find something in between. I need comfort first, then a mix of what looks good in the room and what I like, lol. Thank you!
Do you have a Flex Steel distributor in your town? If not, you can likely find one nearby if you Google it. If you don't end up being able to get what you want in Flex Steel, let me suggest a site called Wayfair. I ordered my headboards from them and they were nice quality and reasonably priced. They came quickly and with no problems and, if I recall correctly, the shipping was free.
Have fun shopping and please show us what you picked!
There is a nearby store that sells Flexsteel. However, I just lost my cat of 11 yrs and now I'm not sure when I'll be going sofa shopping. :-(
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. They really do get to be like family members. You will get to the sofa in good time. At least you still have your old one to sit on for the moment.
