Paint color for front door

by Molly Ferguson
I live in an 1872 farmhouse, which I love. Colors are white, grey and deep red for the shutters. I love that as well except for the ugly brown outdated front door. It simply fades into the white screen door as you can probably see from the photo. Would love advice on a color to use that would pop as well as pointers on best type of paint and primer for a door. Thank you!

I love your porch! I bet the rest of your home is just beautiful! My first thought for the pop of color for your door was yellow or aqua. Aqua is traditional porch color for old houses because the porch's ceiling was usually painted that color (or sometimes a sky blue). Green was also seen a lot on old porches, and a green door would pull in the color from your greenery. It might look a bit Christmasy with your red floor though :)

What about a bright green? It would tie in with your other colors, but, still pop. My first thought was red, then, I talked myself out of it. Then I thought teal or turquoise. It's a lovely house, so you can't go wrong. If you don't like it, it can be repainted! The most important step is always the prep. My husband insists that you have to remove a door to get a good paint finish on it. Have fun!

Paint the same as the shutters? Would go good with the white screen door, and you don't see much of the door with the screen on, so it would pop out!

    I vote for black.

Thank you all! I do think a green shade could look really good as long as I can avoid the Christmas look.😄 will put another post up once I figure out what I'm doing!

Would not paint inside door. Would paint the screen door charcoal, deep turquoise, or brown to match inside door..

A shade of green would compliment what you have already. Red and green are opposite on the color wheel and considered complimentary.
