Shelley on Jan 24, 2016personally I would NOT paint with an "IN" color....because what's in today is out tomorrow...what do you like....a pop of color? or something that compliments your walls? like Janet Pizaro asked...what colors are in the kitchen now....I would go maybe a lighter shade than the wallsHelpful Reply

Lauren Lund on Jan 24, 2016I went to do a repair at one of our rental properties and discovered the tenant had removed the upper kitchen cupboard doors and the interiors were painted a very intense color matching the pale backsplash below. My first reaction was shock that she'd so blatantly violated the "do not alter" clause in the lease; my second was that her kitchen looked gorgeous. When she moved away she put the cupboard doors (which she'd carefully stored) back up. The bright interior made no difference in renting. She definitely used a high quality paint, because the shelves are holding up well, and they are easy to clean between tenants. Good luck with your project!Helpful Reply

Jen on Jan 24, 2016I learned MANY MANY years ago to leave the contact paper and instead use self adhesive discontinued wall paper! Cheap..easy and if I want to change I can! Best tip my ex mom in law ever gave me! (look for it at Goodwill stores) Hard to find but at 2-3$ for a roll you can do the entire kitchen!Helpful Reply

Tracy on Jan 24, 2016oh how fun! I do this all the time and I use contrasting colors. I guess it just depends on if you are a matchy matchy type of person or if you like to express differences. One thing for sure is the color should be light, bright or bold. Dark colors would make you feel like you are reaching into a the unknown dark hole. lol! Sometimes I like to stencil either a pattern line or the whole thing in a darker color. Do remember however, that you are going to need to wipe it down once in awhile, so talk to the people at the paint counter about what type of paint to use. Just have fun with it, it's paint..you can always paint over it if you don't like it, right?Helpful Reply

Dorothy on Jan 25, 2016We just updated our kitchen and painting the interior of the cabinets was # 1 on my list. I used one shade lighter than the walls with a foam brush and it was a wizz to get done. I love it and now I use colored labels on storage containers and it looks so 2016 and now dark ole 1970's. I love it.Helpful Reply

Janet Pizaro on Feb 09, 2016This is just an opinion I would be a little leary of painting the inside cabinets. Although I have never done this myself My old kitchen was painted by the previous owner and the paint pealed and always looked dirty and never felt clean as much as I cleaned them. If anything for a inexpensive update you can stain or paint the outside of the cabinets and purchase new hardware. Sometimes that in itself is all a kitchen would need.Helpful Reply
