William on Jul 19, 2016Any paint would work. Just lightly sand to remove any gloss, prime, then paint. Chalk paint is easier. No sanding or priming.Helpful Reply

Lainey Howell on Jul 19, 2016It depends on the look you want at the end. If you like a soft, matte, or rustic finish, use chalk paint. It can be waxed to a fine luster, and since it requires very little prep, is probably the easiest to execute. If you want a very high shine, you can use a spray paint, or use lacquer. Lacquer is the most difficult finish and is better applied by an expert. Whatever finish you want,be sure you remove all foreign material especially dust, and try to paint in as lose as you can to ideal conditions: proper temperature, dust free environment, proper venting if indoors, mask, gloves and/or mask with filters (particularly important when using spray). There are a thousand choices out there, so visit one of the big box stores, or a paint store,or a refinishing shop, etc., and talk to the experts. Their job is to educate you!Helpful Reply

Crystal Meyer Griffith on Jul 19, 2016You can use anything provided the surface prep is good. Unless you have divots and scrapes you don't actually have to sand it. You can use a deglosser product also known as liquid sandpaper to give some tack to the surface and then paint it. I would use an exterior porch paint if the pieces are going to get alot of wear like in a kid's room.Helpful Reply

Janet Pizaro on Jul 19, 2016Remember chalk paint gives a different look to the furniture. Before you decide on a paint decide on the look you would like to achieve based on your style .Helpful Reply

Bridget on Jul 19, 2016I suggest a good quality latex. First decide if you what a gloss or matt finish. Then using fine sandpaper lightly sand down headboard and footboard. using a ta.ck cloth, available in any paint section or hardware store. this will remove the sanding particles nicely. next, apply one coat of primer. next apply paint. done!.Helpful Reply
