Do I have to remove stain from my cabinets to paint them?

no sand them a little and then the paint will grip better.
Above comments are very good but I would try a little spot first to see if the stain comes through.
I also advise using a paint that cuts out some of the work,like chalk paint- good luck and keep us posted!
