If you've got the HLVP gun and compressor, and a good respirator, you can. Be sure to prep well, and sand down to 1500 grit, and use the compressor to blow off the dust, and follow up with a tack cloth. I would for sure practice on some scraps, cause there are tons of things that go wrong with sprayers.
What kind of lacquer? Lacquer paint like on metal surfaces - like a car, or asian furniture laquer? I can see either application look good. I have a friend with race car red cabinets in their kitchen and it looks awesome!
I've always read that lacquer is the trickiest finish to paint. It will show any imperfections. If it's the shiny look you're going for, what about a good paint followed by a high gloss sealer?
