We have yellow formica with oak wood trim from the '80's.Is there anything durable and practical and not tons of work. We are not overly handy.

Rustoleum and Gianni both offer countertop restoration kits

Paint the countertops with any color you like, with any wall or vinyl paint. Then lightly splatter and streak with another color. Don’t forget the trim. Repeat with one other color. By now you have a stone-looking countertop. Marble, granite, limestone—depending on the colors and markings. Finish by coating the entire countertop with at least three coats of waterproof clear sealer. If you caulk any gaps and seal completely, you will have an inexpensive but very modern countertop. ☺️

Rustoleum has a paint kit for formica/laminate countertops. Everything is included step by step instructions and available in a variety of colors. Video shows you how its done. Good luck! https://youtu.be/cgx7JWDyDZw
