Hello. Painting the stairs white would be hard to keep clean. If you want to stain and paint I would stain the stair and paint the risers.
I agree with Amanda. white steps would be too much work to keep looking clean.
Stain them. Will look much better look. Also stain does not show wear, like paint. The paint will chip and look bad.
But paint the risers in a durable, washable white because that's where toes of shoes hit the stairs. 😇💖
Most people paint the risers and side, but stain the steps. It is your staircase and your choice, but that is usually how people do it.
