I want to paint my floors and need some advice

Question

So, we ripped up our old carpet. I think it was shag...I really would like to paint the floor but once we got everything off the floor ie carpet/pad nails etc we found that our base is only 4x8 boards. What should we do first or give up and put new carpet down.

Although this was a worn hardwood floor it painted beautifully. It sounds like yours is plywood? You can paint it. Won't hurt if later you decide to upgrade the wood or get more carpeting. Painting is very easy and clean and IMHO beautiful. I have lots of painted floors!

Thanks Sally! I did it all free hand. . . that is just following a penciled line. I loved doing this. And I love the floor still after many years!

We did the same thing 7 years ago. The carpet was awful, and just plywood subfloor underneath. We painted the floors with porch/floor paint, and it was awesome. Easy clean, and it sealed all that wood. When it starts looking bad, just lay down a fresh coat. For us, this was once a year but we have 4 kids and 7 dogs!

Thank you so much. I think that's what were looking at as our best option. I was thinking of getting a stencil to put down over the paint ;-D.
