Faux Wallpaper | Sponge Paint Technique
Don't want to spend money on wallpaper, but have a wall that needs a makeover? Check out this easy sponge painting method that will give your focal wall the wallpaper wow factor for much less.
Before, I had a very blank white wall in my girls' bedroom. This wall needed to be fancified as it would be the focal wall of the room.
I went to the closest building supply store and picked up three color sample pots. The colors I chose were Cockleshell, Frosted Jade and Ginger Sugar by Behr. I also grabbed some cheap tray liners and basic sponges. I had a smaller wall to paint, but these samples were more than enough to get the job done.
I poured my colors into the trays, and designated a sponge for each color. Using only one edge of the sponge, I dabbed it into the paint make sure not to get too much. You don't want so much that the paint will drip on the wall. Less is more.
Starting at the top of the wall, I used the ceiling as a guide to begin my first line of sponge painted rectangles. I worked in sections rather than doing one whole line at a time.
Alternating the colors at random gave the wall a more organic look. This is also not meant to be a wall of perfect lines, so eyeballing where to dab the sponge is sufficient.
I saved the edge lines for last, cut my sponges in half and went back to finish them.
I really enjoyed this project and how easy and inexpensive it was. It adds so much texture and personality to the girls' bedroom.
This paint project absolutely could be tailored to fit an adult space as well.

I have 2 glass doors on my kitchen cabinets and have been considering covering the walls with stick on shelf paper. This project looks much easier and more unique. Thank you!
