select furnishings that all do double duty, such as a coffee table that doubles as storage chest; if you have an eat in kitchen, try a banquette instead of chairs so that you can use that area under the seat for storage. Underbed space is so often overlooked - there are many options to consider, such as platform beds with built in dresser or a cheaper option would be to take old mismatched drawers, and add casters to store things in - out of the way but easy to access! Hope these tid bits help, Adrienne.

Bless your heart! I'll bet you get lots of suggestions from Hometalkers. Something I am in the process of doing is using an over-the-door shoebag with clear plastic pockets to store my many spools of thread. Shoebags can also be used to store pantry items, cleaning items, bathroom items, etc. and, of course, shoes. Mine came from Walmart and was about $8 USD. They had a really nice canvas one with a smaller pocket in front of the regular pocket for around $13, but the pockets were mesh and you can't see through it too well, which may not be an issue depending on what you're storing. Also, there's lots of storage under the bed and under the couch and go up when there's no more floor room -- add vertical shelves, hanging baskets, etc. Good luck!

Add higher shelves in your closets for things you know you will not use often. I put risers on my bed so that I could put two under bed totes on top of each other. There are lots of things that can be stored under a bed. The floor of closets can also contain many things, just label what is in it if you can't tell from looking at it.

Go vertical! The over the door shoe organizer is not just for shoes! http://amzn.to/2raZn9l They come in many styles and colors now so they can add to your decor while storing your stuff! Don't forget the under the bed storage containers which might also fit under your couch. Maybe you could watch some of those small houses videos for more ideas. Hope this helps!

Also, use clear plastic for storage, and try to buy multi-purpose furniture: a trunk for a coffee table; end tables that are storage pieces, etc. Also, if you have a small round table for an end table, you can add a floor length cloth and store things underneath. There are "fabric shelves" you can buy at Ikea that fasten to a closet rod. I use mine with a set of plastic lidded storage containers, clearly labeled for small craft items. Also, make use of full length wardrobes....I have three in my living room for all my craft/storage needs since my house is very small. Hope this helps!

Don't forget over the door shelving in bedrooms & washrooms. IF there are any stairs, it's worth it to have a carpenter make steps into drawers. If in an apt, attractive baskets on shelves bring colour & interest also consider mounting an item on the wall (a bike) & make it "art". Small outdoor sheds can hold seasonal items In durable plastic totes. But the best advice, don't overstock anything & don't keep seldom-used items.

Go vertical! Install extra shelves in your closets. Out items you don't use often in the top shelf. Go vertical in your living spaces to display your treasures or in the kitchen for open storage of dishes, etc.
