    i have found , that if you angle plastic totes on their narrow side you can squeeze 2 in there . it where i store seasonal clothes.

    I have a plan for my pantry cupboard, same situation as yours. There is about 16" above the doors and it is unused. My plan is to put a shelf in the cupboard above the height of the doors, remove the drywall above and replace with a face frame and cupboard doors. Unfortunately the supplier I used to have for cabinet doors is gone and making doors is time consuming. Let's say that the project is on my list.

    If you don't mind spending the money you could have a cabinet maker build the face frame and doors. You would install using drywall screws through the face frame into the studs.
