Often the mess is too much and each project started just opens another can of worms. It seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel sometimes.

Take a break and do something for yourself, even if it is just take a walk. Many call remodel, divorce remodel, because you forget to take a break.

I do one project or room at a time. I also don't rush it. Take your time and take breaks. Give time to clean up at the end of each day. Any mess will slow you down. Take a weekend off for yourself and family.

I find it is less overwhelming if you do one room at a time. That way you can focus on it, find the right colors, pieces, etc. Realize it takes time, lots of time - actually more time than you ever plan. Try to enjoy the process. Then when you finish that room, celebrate your accomplishment and get ready for the next one. Or get in the car, drive away and never come back. Just kidding!

Gosh, this is tough! I would always make sure there was one room that was clean that you can escape to. Renovations can really push ones limits!! I believe that when you keep your focus on the big picture of the world (sounds corny, but this is true), like how so many people would love to even have a house (like those in Haiti), and here you are in a position to not only have a house, but to remodel it - well, it keeps your perspective positive.

I know I live in a small house, and sometimes get frustrated, until I remember how many people in world would love to live where I do. The big picture helps. And so does chocolate! LOL

Agree, do one area at a time. I have also put up a plastic shield from floor to ceiling to prevent dust and debri from reaching other areas. I would clean the work area each night so it wasn't a nightmare. I set up my bedroom as a retreat area for me and my cat.

Last year I had a 6 foot wide chimney torn down that was built in the 40s, and wouldn't you know it started pouring the 2nd day. They found lots of damage and had to replace the studs and headers, I became their runner to the lumber yard, and also the food court to keep them happy and working.... breakfast and lunch, and late day snack.
