How to get cabbage leaves released to make cabbage rolls ?

Are you using regular head cabbage? If so I soak in a bowl of water to help "blossom" the cabbage to help open it up.

For cabbage rolls, typically I use napa cabbage as the leaves are long and easy to roll. I cut out the hard stem bits and very quickly par boil to make the leaves supple and easy to roll.

You can cut off the butt end and try that, or dip it into boiling water to soften the leaves and make taking the leaves off in one piece easier.
