Hummingbird Feeders

Hometalk,When is the best time to take down Hummingbird feeders for the winter? I live in Southern Kentucky.

  • Hummingbirds are usually gone by the first frost except in the Southeast. If you do not see any more visiting your feeders, then it is time to bring them in for the season. The Ruby throated Hummers have already been migrating south for winter and you may see some stragglers and some Rufous hummers. I have seen some people leave them until first frost.

    Just keep an eye on them. I filled just one of mine about 3 days ago. I saw just a few birds then. We have a few frosts already. I have not seen any birds the yesterday or today. I will bring them in the next couple days.

    I live in the Pacific Northwest and take mine down when I see that the little birds aren't frequenting my feeders. the occasional ones that fly through have the flowers in my yard and on our deck to feed on!
