First, get rid of everything you don't need or use. Then, go room by room and group similar things together....cookware, toiletries, scarves, tools, etc. Use baskets and bins in each room to group and store similar items. Then, build shelving units or use existing closets to store the baskets and bins. Label things clearly to make things easier to find. Make sure to put things back where they belong after using them.

Sam, I like light colors, for the difference, it makes in a person's personality. You can select any color you want to use. From that point on, you are free to select how the furniture is arranged, and the diff that each arrangement makes. There is lots of ideas, so just relax and enjoy. Even a change of colors on drapes, curtains, and toss pillows, may have a great effect in this area. Best wishes, J.

The best way to organize is to do it one room at a time. Some people start organizing their bedroom, and find an item that belongs in the living room. So they take it to the living room. There they see something in the living room that needs to go somewhere else and pretty soon they’ve forgotten all about the bedroom where they started! So just do one room at a time and the best way to do that is to use three baskets -- laundry baskets are fine. In one basket put those things that you want to keep; in the second basket put those things you don’t want to keep; and in the third basket put things you’re not sure of, would you can deal with later. Generally, when it comes to clothes in the bedroom, the way to decide whether you want to keep it or not is if you have worn it within the last year keep it. However, if you haven’t worn the item in a year’s time, get rid of it. Do this in each room of your house and you are off to a good start!
