Stains on an old tablecloth

I have an old tablecloth that belonged to my Mother. Its probably from the 1940's. It is a texture sort of like burlap but not as rough. Lots of beautiful embroidery & crochet around edges. All of this done by one of my Aunts. I want to use it but is has several stains & some look like coffee with cream. Can't imagine a stain my Mother couldn't get out but they are there. Color is kinda tanish goldish. Probably all cotton.

I suggest you use Go-Jo or Goop Hand Cleaner. Rub the stains with some the hand cleaner using a cloth. You'll want to rub it for a few minutes then hang it to dry. When the cleaner has dried you can wash the tablecloth in warm wash/cold rinse water and the stains should be gone. I hope it works for you. You can buy these hand cleaners at Wal-Mart or a hardware store.

Don't know if it can work on ancient stains but this actually will take out dried ink and many other impossible to remove stains so here it is....Pour some warmed raw milk into a bowl and soak the stained ares in the milk for at least 5 minutes...wash and then see. I hope this works for you! Blessings.

I have always used an OXI based cleaner.... disolve in warm water and soak for an hour or so..... then wash on gentle in warm.... check stains before drying as sometimes it may take one or two soakings...

I agree with Paula about OxiClean granual powder. However, I found I need to soak overnight for real tough stains. Also, make sure the granuals are all soaked with water...some stirring is involved here. It never fails for me. This will not harm the item.

I recently had to try to remove dried wine, coffee and old unknown stains (but the yellowish gold colour you described) from a piece of white antique quilting. I made a past of SHOUT liquid stain remover and oxy-clean; applied to the stains and washed the quilt piece using the stain remover cycle of my washing machine. This worked fabulously on all the stains.
