Wasp in AC unit

My AC unit comes on, goes off within minutes. It seems to blow cold air for the few minutes it's on. I saw a wasp nest in the unit outside, could that be the problem?

  • Like anything else, if it overheats it will quit running. Taking care of wasps, bees, etc early in the morning or in the evening when they are in the nest and less active. I think you need to kill them and clean out the a/c unit. also have you cleaned the filter on the inside too? if that becomes clogged the unit will not cool properly too. good luck

If air con units are not kept clean and free of dust and debris they can cause house fires. I would get it checked out and get the wasps out of there. Please don't leave the wasps where they are as they will cause damage.
  • Hey @amanda - The possible problem is the contacts in the unit are cutting on and off. Insects love to get into them and short them out. I would recommend a licensed contractor since this is a high voltage electrical issue
