How to remove rust from vintage embossed tin paneling?

Have removed a piece of vintage embossed tin paneling from a old home that has areas of rust but no damage. How do I remove the rust safely and the next steps to prepare to repaint. Plan to use the paneling as a backsplash in kitchen so do I need to apply a sealant over the new paint?

Rustoleum makes a great rust remover product.
I would seal with a clear spray sealant after painting so it more easily cleanable.

You could use 000-0000 steel wool to abrade the rust off, or use Rustoleum Rust Dissolver. After you paint.... with a paint for metal. Then I would a few coats of marine Spar Varnish on it for the backsplash.
