If it is the head of the screw and you can't back it out and it's a Phillips head, try a flat head screwdriver instead--sometimes it can catch the ends and you can (slowly) turn it. If it's a round headed screw, you can use a hacksaw to cut a new slot and use a flat head. If you mean that it spins in its hole, if you can get it out, you can stuff the hole with a wooden matchstick or some toothpicks and a little wood glue, let it dry, then screw it back in. Hope this helps.
Add a toothpick in the hole or put glue, let dry. Then replace the screw. Cut off the extra if using toothpick.
This is the most popular post on my site and has been for years! I show you how to fix this exact problem of a stripped screw in wood! Here is the post from my site, 'Carpenter Trick to Repair Furniture'
For the head, you can use a wide rubber band to get traction. Place over the screw and then your screwdriver or drill can grab.
If the hole is too large, remove the screw and fill the hole with wood putty. Once it's dry, you can use a drill to put a new wood screw in it's place.
Thank you,will try it.
Get screw out, use some wood glue on a tooth pick, push glued toothpick into screw hole then break it off level with surface put screw back in.
