How can I add feet to this recliner?

by K S

Scored this well made leather/plastic recliner at thrift for $5 dollars. A bit dirty aqua colored but no rips and handles need redone. Sits low and looks like had some type of feet, screw holes on bottom corners. No name on underneath. Any info on make or type of feet? Thanks

Very sturdy, commercial maybe?

I've seen used chair feet or table legs at thrift stores, consignment shops, antique shops and salvage places. I'd check out those and see if you can find something that looks right. I don't think you need to have the exact make and model--just something that you can attach. Most feet and legs have screws on them that would probably fit.

Try your hardware store for furniture feet. Most should have the same size screws that will fit into your chair. They can be made of various materials, most likely wood or plastic. I would choose wood. I would also use some wood glue to glue toothpick (broken in half) to each hole, vertically, to make sure the holes will be smaller than the new screws on the feet, so they can be screwed in with no wobbling. Insert the thicker end of the broken toothpick first. It may be a bit of a struggle to get the new screws started because of the added wood inside the holes, but it will be worth it. You could use a drill bit that is just a bit smaller than the screws to ease the entry.

Look for feet that will raise it to your preferred height.

Shirley is correct. Hardware store or homecenter have replacement furniture feet. Standard screw size should just screw into the corners. May need to be finished or painted.

That is a hospital recliner used for patients. Do not go for spindle legs. Block style legs would be more appropriate for balance especially when you try to recline. Something like this:
