How do I tighten screws on arm chairs?

I have wooden dining room chairs with loose arms. The screws are covered with a wood for looks. How do I remove the wooden plug?

If it is a flush plug, drill a small hole in the center. Screw in a wood screw. When the point bottoms out on the head of the screw under the plug, it will start to eject the plug. You'll need to buy new plugs and stain and finish to match,
