Hi, Mary, a soft close drawer is usually found in kitchens, to prevent drawers slamming shut. It takes little effort to start the drawer into a self closing mode.
Your drawers may be sticking because the inside or bottom drawer rails need real beeswax applied to them. You can find this at JoAnne fabric, in the notions department, or in hardware stores.
I had trouble with the drawers on an old wash stand I had refinished opening. They were well and truly stuck. My son and husband provided the muscle power to get them open. I took them out of the carcass and used a wax candle to rub wax on the rails and on the edges of the drawers. They are working fine now, though I try to remember to open them occasionally. This piece of furniture predates modern drawer rails by a century or so. Easy and cheap solution.
I have them on all the kitchen cupboards and drawers in my kitchen. We have lived in this house for four years (don't know when they were put up) without a problem, I would try the beeswax or some kind of lubricant. I would also check to make sure there isn't something in the sliders or hinges that could be stopping them from closing on their own.
I have an old dresser the drawers no longer close all the way and are very wobbly. I would like to paint this piece but I don’t know how to fix the drawers to work ...

I interested in this too. Not sure what soft close drawers are but the drawers are impossible to open on the dresser I bought
