  • First make sure that this isn't a valuable piece of furniture, or an antique. Youll destroy the value by altering it.

You can try lowering where the frame is attached to the head and foot board if it is screwed in. If not, cutting may be your best option but you'll have to make sure the cuts are perfectly flat and of equal distance on all the legs.

If you're lowering it to make it easier to climb up/down in that case I would use a small step and use the space underneath the bed for storage.

I would hate to alter a 4 poster that may be valuable by cutting off the legs. I would take it apart and lower the metal bars that the mattress rests on. If you can't so that, there are steps for beds that sit by the side of the bed. If you can't find them on-line look for dog steps for beds.

She's Crafty is correct . I would consider using a step stool or ramp before altering the bed that drastically .

To lower a bed by cutting off its legs, you will need the following materials:

    • A saw (such as a circular saw or a jigsaw)
    • A drill
    • Screws
    • Wood glue

Here are the steps to follow:

    1. Measure the length of the bed legs that you want to remove. Make sure you have enough room to lower the bed to the desired height.
    2. Use a saw to carefully cut off the legs of the bed at the desired height. Be sure to use caution and follow all safety guidelines for using power tools.
    3. Once the legs are cut, you will need to attach the bed frame to the remaining portion of the legs. You can do this by drilling screws through the frame and into the legs, or by using wood glue to secure the frame to the legs.
    4. Once the bed frame is securely attached to the legs, you can add a new set of legs to the bed if desired. You can use screws or wood glue to attach the new legs to the bed frame.
    5. Test the stability of the bed and make any necessary adjustments before using it.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
