How to hand sculpt a missing ear on my outdoor statue?

What product that would bond with cement, and easy to sculpt?

I had different ideas that came forward to me. But now, I am thinking of inserting a rod for support and hand sculpt around it with the correct medium that would adhere to the cement for this missing ear. Any Ideas out there? TY Rejay

Hi, I'm not really sure about sculpting or not but i think the best thing to repair concreat is with quick drying concreat ! Just put the piece back to where its supposed to be with either masking tape or blue painters tape , then leave a little opening to pour your concreat in then cover hole when dried sand down , good luck Crystal

I would mold another ear with chicken wire, the dip it in concrete, *or cover it with cement dipped burlap pieces, then sand and attach the dry product using a concrete bonding glue, and as suggested by Crystal, fill in the cracks.

This is a thought with possibilities. You mean create a 3d ear with chicken wire...good idea. I can make it more than once to get the shape perfect. The only problem is aligning the impressions of two different surfaces to make a tight seal. The burlap is also a good idea. I will get there.

I love how - to - videos. Thank you for this. Every bit helps me. This deer is a challenge, and I want to do a good job. Ideas are coming in from everyone...many heads are better than one.

I say yes to ears for Deer! Check out vids on “making molds for Resins.” You might make a mold of the ear that broke off, and pour concrete in it or Resin. Attach new ear with concrete screws.

    Thank you Roberta,

The ear is on a slant and it looks about right that you would need to screw it on for added support. I'm so afraid to botch it up now. So many replies came in and it is such a comfort to see so all the people that took their time to help me out. I like this deer a lot and am afraid to use all these techniques now. I need to practice on something else...one mistake will make it worse. I have until next summer to try at making molds and work with cement screws. I will go slow; but I have it figured if out, If I can't get the technique right, my little guy will have a pretty branch, nestled over the missing ear.

    Thank You,

    Rejay

I have used GORILLA GLUE to put a wing back on an outdoor clay angel. It works and it lasts.

      Hi Herta,

Gorilla glue is my favorite glue and it is nice to hear about it from someone else's viewpoint; how good it stands up to the outside elements.

Hi Rejay sounds like an interesting project and a fun one too!

I found a site where you can you cast a mold of the other ear in minutes , then attach it.

of course to make it work on the other side of the head you’ll have to make some adjustments.

You may want to make a rough ear then mold it. I suggest making one out of a wire hangar and paper mache. Then casting your mold .

    These molds start at 22.00.

There is also a mold you can with caulk I’ll look to see if I can find it!

    Good luck!🍀

These silicone molds are something! I never heard of it before. I love to create and make things and this is so good to know about for other projects. The ideas keep coming in on this website. As the saying goes "many heads are better than one." I am s o grateful for all the effort that is put into answering my question for this deer.

I think the ear is not missing. It is just covered by a stuffed Santa hat or elf hat. To be followed by a knit winter hat and scarf. Then maybe Cupid wings, leprechaun’s hat, Easter bunny with ears, groom or bride’s head designs, Uncle Sam’s hat, beach hat, autumn wreath, Halloween costume, pilgrim’s hat, and back to Santa. Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh you made me smile and made my day with these suggestions to dress him up. I love this website for all the wonderful responses coming to me about my precious deer. Maybe, I won't fix the ear and will start shopping for seasonal items for him. I love to decorate and love going to Savors, and most of all "my how to website."
