What is the best way to eliminate water retention in my back yard.

water does not drain after a rain I have put more grass seed and nitrogen on yard to thicken it up.

Naomie hit the nail on the head! Best to research and do the changes needed now so you don't have this problem continuously through the years. Though it may be a bit expensive, in the long haul it will be worth it to you and the investment in your property. -

Neighbors had the same problem they advertised for clean fill as well as having a truck load or two of top soil delivered, Build up that yard. -

You need clean fill dirt, now, or open an ice skating rink in the winter.
