A patch put on with waterproof fabric glue would probably work across the front where the tears are.
A weather proof fabric will probably hold using waterproof glue. I would use a piece across the front portion on the top or stagger pieces following the stripes to create the illusion it was meant to be that way.
I patched our fixed patio awning years ago using a canvas patch with fabric glue and recreated the fabric design by hand painted the color stripes. This was a freestyle repair, with supplies that I had on hand—- I have no idea, perhaps there are repair kits around?
As your awning ages, it becomes more susceptible to wind damage if left open during a storm. You can fix and repair small tears using adhesives made specially for this purpose. In general, canvas awnings can be reinforced with tape and/or sewn, while vinyl awnings can be repaired with vinyl cement. Check your local awning store for ways you can repair your shade fabrics.
Chances are the fabric is damaged by the sun, and will disintegrate when you begin sewing and putting tension on it. www.fabric.com carries SunBrella exterior fabric and heavy duty nylon outside fabrics which is 54" -60" wide.... https://www.fabric.com/find?searchText=sunbrella

heavy nylon canvas.... https://www.fabric.com/find?SearchText=exterior+nylon
if the fabric has ripped... chances are that it is sun damaged enough (fabric fatigue) to need replacement... the long tear extending toward the rear is an indicator of that.... check with a local upholster supply store that carries outdoor fabric like "Sunbrella" or look in your local area for someone who does canvas awnings..... they can probably replace the fabric easily... then just re-install the awning... the new fabric should last at least 5 years or more... depending on what you buy....
I would try and do it for myself... but I have lots of sewing experience and a machine that can handle the heavy fabric.... if you do too.... give it a try.
Have you seen this product? "fixmytear". It's a repair tape which sticks very well to vinyl, canvas, rubber, leather and most other surfaces. Absolutely life saving tape.
