Whats typical hose size for a Disposal vent?

My air vent is overflowing water when running the dishwasher. I can tell the hose that runs from the Disposal to the vent is clogged (so dishwasher water overflows out of it).

I have a plumber coming in a few days, but want to buy supplies for him to have ready. I just dont know what that hose size is without removing it (which is very difficult)

Hi there, the standard dishwasher drain hose is 5/8" but it does depend on your brand of dishwasher etc. I would sure think a plumber would come with typical supplies like that especially if he knows that's what your problem is. Mine is held on with a pipe clamp right above the sink trap that I can unscrew and clean out if needed.

Any plumber will have a truck full of common supplies and parts. That might not be where the clog is. Just relax and he will take care of it.

The plumber will have the parts. It may be the air vent that needs to be replaced or cleaned.

Plumbers come prepared for the specific job they are to do, he will investigate based on the symptoms of the dishwasher. It is his job to be prepared with routine items for his trade.

  • Your plumber will have all the supplies needed on hand, or if it's specialty, he or she can run out and get it. It's best to let them take care of it.

Hello AidenGrano, hope this helps you out, Most dishwasher drain hoses are 1/2 inch in size. To allow for different types of connections at the end of the hose, dishwasher drain hoses are fitted with a special rubber boot. This allows them to connect to 1/2-inch, 3/4-inch and 1-inch connections.

When this happened to me it we had to have the pipe drilled out by Roto Rooter and everything worked great again.

I had a problem where the dishwasher gave me an error signal because of the drain hose being plugged. I just connected the dishwasher drain hose directly to the garbage disposal and abandoned the air vent in place. I had a super quiet Bosch dishwasher and was annoyed when it ran and noise came out the air vent. Now it is quiet. I have always connected dishwashers directly to the garbage disposal in the past.
