How can you keep garage door hinges from rusting

My automatic garage door rolls up in sections with metal hinges but the hinges over time have caused rust to roll down the front of the outside of the painted door. Is there a way to stop this without replacing the door, replacing the hinges would be a major job and expense.

I spray them lightly with WD-40 or any spray lubricant at least once a year, then wipe them off right away so the lub does not run all over, also spray the rollers and they will be quieter too.

Clean off the rust from the hinges with a rust remover. When it is clean, spray WD-40 on the hinge. It is oil based and will keep the hinges from rusting again. Check periodically to see if you need another application of WD-40.

You need to oil the hinges. Oil well the first time and be sure to have paper towel on hand to catch the drips. Eventually the problem will clear up. Keeping the hinges oiled also makes for a smoother operation of the door. I do mine at least once a year and I also oil the wheel for the pulleys.

Sounds like those hinges need some good oiling. WD40 is a great product to use on them to keep the rust out.
