Try Bondo Wood filler, same people make the Bondo for cars. It sets in 15 minutes or less so you have to work fast. It is sand-able and paintable. I had to order on line because I can't find a store that carries it.
Are you wanting to fill the holes left by the hardware that was on the frame? Or what to replace the door frame with?
Hi Jayne! I use wood putty to fill in small holes. If it is a door that I am repurposing for another use, I may use and old door knob plate. But, here is a link to an article I found that gives you step by step! Hope this helps:) https://rainonatinroof.com/2014/12/cover-old-hardware-holes/
Wood filler is the best product for that. Put the filler in the holes and space, smooth off, let dry and then sand. Prime paint and put on finish coat.
if you mean the holes from hardware. just use wood putty and sand smooth
