What is the easiest way to put plastic on your windows?

They sell kits and inside there is the plastic and a double-sided foam tape. Dollar Tree has these kits right now.

inside or out side the window or both? the previous owners of my house were burning wood to keep warm, and let all the drafts supply the oxygen. i can set the thermostat at 70 and the room stays at 65. i have plastic on most of my windows, but with pets it a challenge don't forget to check caulking around windows, door frames, etc.

instead of that finicky narrow tape, i use a low tack painters masking tape- the blue roll - to put up the plastic sheeting.

You want the 3M brand, it is the easiest to work with. Put the tape up all around the window. Cut the plastic bigger than the window by three to four inches. You can cut away the extra easily when you are all done. Start at the top in one corner and go across the top. You don't have to stretch it tight, just somewhat even without any folds. I then start at one top corner and do a little ways down, then do the other side the same. Try to get it straight across, a little loose is ok. If you do both sides at once it is easier to get it even. When done with the sides, do the bottom, from the middle out to try to keep that even also. Make sure you have pressed the plastic into the adhesive strip so that it hold both the frame and the film securely before you try to shrink it. Use a hairdryer to tighten it, starting at the top going from side to side all the way across. Do not touch the hairdryer to the film or it will melt it. You can see if you have it shrunk everywhere as it will look like glass and be tight. If you see some slight areas of wrinkles you can go over them again with the hair dryer. I hope this helps! Again, the 3M brand is much better than the Duck brand. You get what you pay for. My brother got the Duck brand once to do my moms bedroom windows and it was very hard to work with, it ripped easily and melted really easily.

Use Sellotape and cling film or other polythene, Then direct a hair dryer towards it.. The plastic should shrink a bit and become more visually acceptable..

So far it has...if you want to re use plastic get a roll of 2 to 3 ml. cut as needed to fit the window....painter tape in place. With the 2 cats...that skinny kit plastic doesn’t hold up, the other has.

very carefully you can remove it. Don’t get in a hurry. I’ve been known to wrap the “used” tape over the edge of the plastic and tape over it the next year.

if you want reusable get a roll of 2 or 3 mil. Plastic sheeting. You can pul the low tac tape off of it. The film.....not so much. Remember to label each sheet as to what window it fits, my cats tor into the thin film on the picture window...they didn’t with the 3 ml. The view is a little hazy, but the house is warmer.

I'm not sure if these kits were meant for more than one use..... It's been years since I've used them. But when I did, I used them both on outside and inside because the window was single paned and the house was extremely drafty and cold. It did make a difference. But come spring, they usually were war torn from winter storms and moisture. Not too terribly expensive to replace year after year.

Now with the bad back, I'd be using the easiest method you can think of for attaching the plastic to window frame with any kind of tape. No one will notice, except you, for the next several months that it will be up.

Also, sheer curtains help cut down on drafts too. Easy to install a single rod to hang them.
