How do I refinish inside a stairway?

My stairway is carpeted and I want to remove the carpet and finish existing wood or install finished stair treads. Recommendations?

You just can't add new treads will change the riser height. You have to remove the old treads then replace with what you want. Stain and finish as you do wood flooring.
