Hi Janeen,
You cannot tile directly onto the wood siding of your tub. The natural fluctuations in temperature and humidity cause the wood to swell and shrink, which will in turn cause your tile installation to fail. They do make special thinset mortars for outside applications, but you really need to use a cement backer board rated for exterior use installed over the wood or remove the wood first.
No. Thiset or mastic will not hold. Any movement in the wall will crack the grout and tils may fall off. Tile needs a smooth solid base.
Tile is heavy, that is why they use cement backer board (Hardi-board) on the walls. Your resin panel walls won't support the weight.
