Actually you can put in anything you want, as long as the surface in rough enough to keep you from slipping when it is wet with rain or snow.... be sure that all the previous tile and thin-set has been removed
There are quite a few options for tile. You could use ceramic, porcelain, natural stone or rubber floor tiles. Make sure that you use something that's made for a bathroom so they're nonslip.
