clean them very well to get grease off, and any dirt, other debris. let them dry. any dents, holes need to be patched. take off covers from electrical boxes. depending of the thickness of the tile, the box may be needing an adjustment when the tile is applied.
Buy some cheap sheets of underlay at Lowe's and put them down first with lots of nails.
Ensure they are clean and the structure is stable. Schluter has a product called Ditra that you can put on floor or walls to provide waterproof installation and stability. This would be especially helpful in a bathroom installation. Go to www.schluter.com to see their products, instructions, and helpful information. I used it on a small bathroom floor between the underlayment and the tile.
(Dfm comments reminded me) You can find electrical box extensions at Home Depot or other locations to extend the face edge of the switch and outlets. The extension allows the electrical stuff to be moved out the tile's thickness so it sets properly.
